Current Exhibition

Soft Rock features handwoven naturally-dyed cushions by Christine Nielson and new stone furniture by Mariah Nielson. Christine, a prolific artist and founder of Coyuchi, was the partner of JB Blunk and is Mariah’s mother. The exhibition began as a mother-daughter design challenge. Christine’s return to weaving after decades of nonprofit and entrepreneurial work inspired Mariah, now the Director of the JB Blunk Estate and Blunk Space, to propose an exhibition of her mother’s work at Blunk Space; Christine, having always encouraged Mariah’s artistic endeavors, asked Mariah to create all of the surfaces on which to display her cushions.

Opening reception May 10, 3–5pm

The Blunk Estate consigns works by JB Blunk from private collectors around the world, in addition to select secondary market works by artists from Blunk’s circle, and contemporary artists & designers who have shown at Blunk Space.

Blunk Space serves as a platform for contemporary and historical art and design influenced by JB Blunk’s practice. The gallery enables an ongoing exploration of creative legacy and influence by bringing contemporary practitioners into Blunk’s space and their work into conversation with his own, and with that of artists from his circle.
